it's official. i will no longer be active on deviantart. i have removed all of my submissions/journals and am currently in the process of deactivating. unfortunately i am having issues with the email i used to open this account, with the whole switchover from 'hotmail' to 'live' account business, so i'm trying to sort that. in the meantime, i am cleaning up here as much as i can.
i had come to some very unfortunate news concerning deviantart and its terms of service, which is the reason i finally decided to get rid of my account. i wasn't using it much anyways, but this was the final push to actually go through with it and sever my ties with this site. i cannot locate the original post that i came across on tumblr, but it generally noted the fact that deviantart gains full control over any art one posts and can market and sell it without your consent or any affiliation to you, and therefore you do not receive any compensation in profit or any recognition that you are the artist behind your own work, once it's used by whomever they sell it to. they referenced a tshirt that was being sold in hottopic that had an artwork taken from here, and at first everyone thought it was hottopic's fault. unfortunately, it wasn't, and because we all agree and sign off on the terms of service right from the beginning, the artist could not sue or receive any compensation for their actions.
this scares me beyond anything. for this reason (along with that i rarely used this site anyways and had already become tired of it and its users long, long ago), i have decided to pack up for good and leave it in my past.
i still do use other social media platforms as a blogging space and to host my artwork, such as tumblr and instagram , so if any of you care enough to follow my progress elsewhere, please feel free. i really do appreciate it.
good luck to all who decide to stay here, and happy art making !
